Name & Registration

Gossner Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chotanagpur and Assam with its headquarters’ in Ranchi. It is understood that the term Chotanagpur and Assam does not mean the Chotanagpur Division as such and the state of Assam only, but the whole Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Madhaya Pradesh, Chattisgarh Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Assam and all the adjacent states, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and themetropolitan cities like Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and the places wherever the G.E.L. Church exists in the country. Its short name is G.E.L. Church historically known as Gossner Church.

The Gossner Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chotanagpur and Assam was duly registered on July 30, 1921, in the office of the Registrar, Joint stock companies, Patna under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 ( Vide No. 273 J). This ia a Religious, Charitable and Philanthropic Society by nature and in its aims, objectives and functions.
The full authority of the church belongs primarily and exclusively to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who is the Head of the Church, to be exercised, through the church which is His Body, collectively as the communion of believers in Christ as per the commision received from the Lord ( Joh 20:22-23, Mathew 28:18-20)
